New Additions to the Children's Garden in 2025

Magnolia Mound Plantation built in 1791 is located on Nicholson Drive and is one of the city’s oldest surviving historic structures.

The kitchen garden is maintained year-round and has been a long-running project of the Louisiana Master Gardeners of Baton Rouge, with support from the Friends of Magnolia Mound and BREC.

In recent years, hands-on visitor experiences have expanded to include a seasonal pumpkin patch event. Proceeds from pumpkin sales (along with items such as honey and sugarcane offered during events) help support the ongoing upkeep and operations of the gardens.

Master Gardeners hosted Backyard Habitat Gardener Camp (7 to 10 year olds) and Sprouts Camp (4 to 7 year olds) at Hilltop Arboretum in early June 2025.

On several occasions during 2025, Master Gardeners were asked to help the Burden staff pot up trees for next year's Arbor Day.
